As a parent, I am always conscious about what kind of content my children consume. I do not endorse digital time more than an hour or even less if not required. Playing out, and physical or mental engagement beyond screen time is so important for these growing kids. We might buy them the latest phone, tabs or whatever is in demand but can never substitute the real deal of taking them away from this digital world. Considering so many reseraches who have claimed negative effects on their brain it becomes vital to keep them away as much as we can. I’m not saying it’s easy, but rather the most difficult because every boring minute can automatically make them scroll through endless screen time.
With so many busy and demanding schedules and the growing trend of nuclear families, the tradition of board games is declining. But one must encourage to engage them more without screens. Recently I’ve stumbled upon Skillmatics board games which are exceptionally good in terms of the right exposure to the child with the premium quality of material being used. Also, these are not meant for a limited age group but can be played at any age, with family members, friends and anyone around. You don’t need to be so picky about the players regarding understanding. Every game they’ve designed is based on the current knowledge and skills one may have or wants to develop. While I won’t deny the kind of colours they’ve used with the clear bold instruction manual to make it easy to understand.
If you’ve been buying board games for years, one thing you’d love about these games is the quality, colour combinations, clarity and knowledge, which is a rare sight in the affordable board games range. Sometimes it’s too cheap or they usually end up being expensive. Here I’m listing 3 games I’ve recently ordered:
20+ DIY CRAFT ACTIVITIES
Children love craftwork. Cut, copy, paste and make some cute little things. For a beginner who wants to try their hands with scissors, glue and some random craft items it’s better to buy a readymade kit to make them feel creative in terms of instructions and guidelines. Such craft boxes also come under the gifting category for those below 13 years to enhance their creativity in the simplest form. Also, craft activities are mostly driven by precision so it does take a good time to create one without indulging in YouTube videos or any type of screen time.
SCOUT IT OUT
Knowing the world map is great fun. But only if this is made easier and user-friendly. A geography book might not help a child to remember places more than a game would. Learning through fun has been always a different experience for parents and children. They learn quickly and effortlessly. This particular game tells you how to know about various places/countries by giving the right hints. And, this isn’t limited to certain age groups. Your entire family can engage themselves and learn more.
GUESS IN 10
Asking questions and guessing have a different level of learning. Because you’re using your mind to find the answer. In this Google world where it takes a fraction of a second to find the answer playing a game which isn’t about checking online but guessing is a different learning. This particular Guess in 10 game is all about fun learning through cards which is travel-friendly and of course age-friendly.
Development has changed the learning patterns from personal touch to digital but we shouldn’t forget that the real cognitive skills do need such brain activities and human conversation. It’s almost impossible to change the real human nature of learning from humans than machines!
